"Baum's" Away

Friday night 9/25 saw American University come to York to face the Bullets for Gettysburg’s only Friday game of the year.  The first four minutes of the game saw the two teams in a feeling out process.  Shortly after, American University grabbed an early lead, which then woke up the Bullets’ offense.  As a result, in the span of five minutes, two goals were scored by freshman Brodie Edgerton, the first of his college career, assisted on both by senior John Baum.  The third and final goal of the period was a solo effort from Baum (a name heard often in this game).

The second period was a wild west shoot ‘em up, consisting of 11 total goals from the two teams.  The first two minutes saw American get two goals to tie the game.  The next three minutes saw the Blue and Orange tally three goals from Baum, Joe Chiarino and Chris Williams to surge in front 6-3, only to be stunned over the next seven minutes with three goals from American U.  #13 Baum put Gettysburg back in front at the five minute mark and four minutes later senior Mike Booz scored unassisted to increase the lead.  However, American just wouldn’t go away and with one minute to go in the second period narrowed the lead to 8-7.

Things cooled down offensively for both teams in the third period with just one tally provided by Gettysburg’s scoring machine John Baum.  The G-men then shut the door the rest of the way to preserve a 9-7 win over a non-league opponent.  The goaltending was shared by freshman Elliot Pajer, making his initial start of his college career, and finished up with sophomore Tom Pelchat, to move the Bullets to two wins, no losses on the year.
