New Head Coach

April 23, 2014

Terry M. Baker has been named head coach of the Gettysburg College hockey team according to former coach and team administrator Eric Esser and Mike Rogusky.

Baker is the third official head coach of the Bullets' hockey program.  He takes the mantle from interim coach Eric Esser, who will remain in an administrative role behind the scenes.  Baker accepted the job in January after attending Gettysburg’s practice.

“I am thrilled that Terry will be joining the Gettysburg team,” said former coach Esser. “This past year Coach Rogusky and I agreed to stay on for one more season in the hopes that we would find a qualified candidate and we certainly did that. We look forward to him brining his vast hockey experience to our program and inspiring our players once again.”

Baker brings a wide and varied background to Gettysburg. Baker was a top High School goaltender in PA as an All-State player.  He attended Ohio State University on a hockey scholarship and was 1st team All freshman in his first year.

In 1975, Terry was invited as one of the goaltenders to tryout for the US Olympic team, but was the final goaltender cut from the team.   In 1978 he was offered a house contract with the Hershey Bears of the AHL.

Since his playing days he has coached a few high school and youth teams and is looking forward to bringing a championship back to Gettysburg.
The new coach will look to continue a strong tradition on the ice rink at Gettysburg. The Bullets have won two conference titles (1993, 2008) and have competed in the playoffs every year but two in the past 20 years. Gettysburg finished 3-16  overall last season in their worst season in recorded history.  Baker looks to turn that around this upcoming season.

“I'm thankful for the opportunity to be at Gettysburg College to coach the hockey team,” said Baker. “Gettysburg has a long tradition of success and has great support for club sports. I'm looking forward to continuing that tradition.”
